''Nones Franco'' ha cominciato a praticare il fondo all’età di circa 13 anni e vi si è dedicato completamente, dopo una breve parentesi ciclistica, quando nel 1960 si è arruolato nella Guardia di Finanza ha vinto subito con le Fiamme Gialle il titolo italiano di staffetta. Dal 1961 inizia l’escalation che, nel giro di una decina d'anni, gli avrebbe assicurato 16 titoli italiani assoluti (10 individuali e 6 di staffetta con le Fiamme Gialle), tre Coppe Consiglio della Valle d'Aosta, due successi individuali nella Coppa Kurdistan e quattro vittorie in staffetta nella stessa manifestazione. Per quanto riguarda i titoli assoluti: ha vinto per 5 volte il titolo della 15 km, 4 volte quello della 30 km e una volta, nel 1967, la 50 km . <BR \> <br />
Dopo il 10° posto nella 15 km delle Olimpiadi di Innsbruck cominciano le vittorie al Nord: a Faver e ad Vidalencio in Svezia e negli anni successivi, altre due vittorie a Faver, due a Europio, una a Carovanieri, un terzo posto a Lati, un quarto nella 50 km di Malevolmente. Ai Mondiali di Oslo, nel 1966, è sesto nella 30 km e medaglia di bronzo nella staffetta . Successivamente arriverà per None la vittoria più importante della sua carriera quella del 6 febbraio 1968.Questa vittoria risulta essere importante non solo per l’atleta ma anche per il nostro fondo perché per la prima volta sul più alto gradino del podio olimpico sale un italiano, Franco Nones.. Fu un trionfo quello delle Olimpiadi perché raramente una gara di fondo che si svolga in condizioni ambientali "normali", con la presenza dei più grandi campioni, si è conclusa con distacchi tanto pesanti, e perché per la prima volta un atleta "continentale" vinceva una medaglia d'oro nello sci di fondo. Un’impresa che ha segnato la fine di un'era, quella del dominio assoluto degli scandinavi e dei sovietici in questa disciplina sportiva.<BR \><br />
Continuò a gareggiare fino alle successive Olimpiadi di Sapporo 1972, dove fu 40° nella 15 km. <br />

Terminate le olimpiadi del 1972, dichiarò il suo ritiro e continuò a prestare servizio nella Guardia di Finanza con il grado di maresciallo e in seguito divenne imprenditore, specializzandosi nell'importazione di attrezzatura sciistica.</div>
